It’s that time of year again when we pause and remember those who have given so much — and indeed those who gave their lives — for the freedom of this country. It’s a moment of gratitude, reflection and solidarity.
We are proud to support theRoyal British Legion’s campaign this year: the time when my trusty Volkswagen Transporter T6 gets to sport a poppy on its front, reminding me — and hopefully others — to take a moment to think of someone who has given so much.
For me, that person is the grandfather I never met — Wing Commander Kenneth Duke Knocker. He was the father my father never really had. Kenneth was a flying instructor, stunt pilot and an RAF Officer. He trained the test pilots for the Spitfire. With a shortage of pilots, he volunteered for bombing missions. He and his crew were shot down whilst flying a Stirling bomber over Holland. All were killed.
So today I ask you: pick one person — a friend, a relative, someone you’ve never met — and remember them. Support the Royal British Legion. Wear the poppy. Be grateful. Remembrance Day Royal British Legion.
