Trading Simulator

Post-It+shadow.png

Board members could not stand back and watch; they had to get involved.
The simulator is addictive.
Amazing, a unique experience and opportunity.

The Brief

Create a gamification that supports the organisation and its teams to make the migration from a wholesale to a retail sales model; support that enables insight, learning and developmental outcomes.

Approach

thebigteam identified a set of key attributes to operate in a retail environment that differs from operating in a wholesale world; we then created a gamification concept and, working with a longstanding partner, DT-Squad, the team developed an artificial intelligence-inspired simulation of a trading model that allowed teams of people to test and develop both as a team and as individuals around these attributes.

Tools

  • Brief to concept to prototype to realisation

  • Conceptual design

  • Gamification development

  • Workshops

  • Facilitation

  • Developmental coaching

Outcome

A direct sales trading simulator made up of 12 workstations, some of which provide information and others allow the team to interact with the game. The design stretches the mental bandwidth through designed complexity, providing timebound pressure on the action. The team acts as a brand, selling vehicles categorised into models and assigned colours. Virtual customers, who act as autonomous agents, enter the model in each of the 52 periods, and the team uses a series of levers, including CEX, production management, tactical spending and lead generation, to compete against two competitor brands for business. Several development consults observe the team and provide team and individual coaching. The client commissioned 10 'simulators' to be set up and put over 220 senior managers through one 'super trading floor' workshop.
